Nightline (Australian news program)

Nightline was the name of the National Nine News' late-night bulletin. It aired at around 11.30 pm weeknights. Its regular presenter was Michael Usher. Its main competitors were Ten's Late News and ABC News's Lateline which both aired prior to Nightline on Nine's standard-definition channel. However, Nightline was also broadcast at 10:30pm on Nine HD. The program was recorded around 10:00pm AEST and went to air at 11:30pm.
The series was patterned after the version that airs on ABC (US), but that one is different from the Australian counterpart even though at one point both versions used the same opening graphics, which both no longer use.
Nightline was axed on Friday 25 July 2008 due to budget cuts within Nine's news and current affairs division.[1] Wendy Kingston presented the last bulletin.

Format
Nightline consisted of news, sport, finance and weather. Reports were sourced mainly from National Nine News reports nationwide, but bulletins also included reports from A Current Affair and international news services.
Presentation
Nightline's opening sequence used the same generic city buildings of the National Nine News opener, except that they were shown at night instead. Nightline also used its own arrangement of the National Nine News theme. The set for the bulletin used Chroma key, with the keyed background usually a live shot of Sydney at night.
