The guitar is a musical instrument, that both accompanies through the use of chords and as a melodic instrument that makes use of single notes. It is used in a wide variety of musical styles, and is also widely known as a solo classical instrument. It is most recognized in popular culture as the primary instrument in blues, country, pop, Jazz, and rock music. The guitar is usually associated with a six-stringed format but variations include that of the four-, seven-, eight-, ten-, and twelve string guitars. Other variations are those of acoustic guitars, semi-hollowbody electric guitars, solidbody electric guitars as well as guitars with more than one neck (see Gibson EDS-1275). Guitars are designed, made, maintained and repaired by luthiers.
John Williams (born 24 April 1941) is one of the world's best-known classical guitarists. Born in Melbourne, Australia, Williams was taught initially by his father Len Williams. At the age of twelve he went to Italy to study with Andrés Segovia. Later, he attended the Royal College of Music in London, studying piano because the school did not have a guitar department at the time. Upon graduation, he was offered the opportunity to create such a department. Being such a lover of the instrument, he seized the opportunity and ran it for the first two years. Williams has maintained links with the College (and with the Northern College in Manchester) ever since.
Anniversaries for October:
....that Jimi Hendrix was one of the few people whom Eric Clapton invited to play along with informally, in the middle of a show?
....that the bass player Jaco Pastorius was killed by a night club bouncer, after being refused entry to a Santana concert?
....that Igor Stravinsky wanted to compose a piece for Andrés Segovia but that Segovia told him that he would never play it?
....that B.B.King's guitar, Lucille, was named after a woman at one of his concerts who caused a fight between two men that eventually led to a fire?
.. that Les Paul, in addition to aiding in the creation of the guitar that bears his name, was a pioneer of multitrack recording.

I use heavy strings, tune low, play hard, and floor it. Floor it, that's technical talk.
