Progymnosperm

The progymnosperms are a clade of woody plants including the Ginkgoales, gymnosperms, angiosperms, and many extinct forms such as Archaeopteris.[1] Early progymnosperms had fern-like foliage,[1] which later diversified to give today's variety. They first appear in the fossil record during the Devonian period.[1]
