Requests for page protection
Shortcuts:
WP:RFPP
WP:RFP
WP:RPP

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to Wikipedia:High-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. Add a level 4 header at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header.
(for example, for an article use: ===={{la|ARTICLE}}====)
  2. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  3. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request. If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear. If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems, and not to articles with half a dozen IP vandalism edits in the last fortnight.
  4. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

Planet (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

temporary full-protect for the entire day of August 24. This page will be today's featured article on the 24th. Without protection for at least the duration of the TFA the page will be flooded with messages of the type Pluto-is-a-planet. Nergaal (talk) 04:28, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Declined – Featured articles on the Main Page are not protected except in response to extreme vandalism. - Peripitus (Talk) 04:46, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Gas (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

long-er term semi-protect. The vandalism activity isn't high but there has not been one IP edit that has contributed positively to this article in many (6+) months. All the edits by registered users have been reverting 'farting'/'poop' related edits and its getting a little old. Check the protection log for this article if you wish. Thanks for the consideration. Katanada (talk) 03:37, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Heroscape (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

temporary semi-protection. High level of IP vandalism. One user from a specific ip continues to add false content to the page and reverts any effort to remove the false information. User has been provided links to documentation indicating the information is false. Scapefan (talk) 02:53, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 2 days. After 2 days the page will be automatically unprotected. Happyme22 (talk) 04:50, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, The article keeps being vandalized by anonymous users; IPs are mostly vandalizing the article. Too much reverting. I think the article needs to be protected..--  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 01:41, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Ponte Vecchio (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

full protection - we're having a bit of an edit war. While the issue is discussed, I'd like to see this page protected from further modifictation. - Denimadept (talk) 00:08, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Fully protected for a period of 4 days. After 4 days the page will be automatically unprotected. —EncMstr (talk) 02:31, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Shrek (film series) (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

It has come to my attention that the film series 'Shrek' is desperately in need of Move Protection as the discussion page has gone rampant and has not been updated for at least 9 months. Messages on the page also seem to be secretly asking for protection and are apparently on the brink of giving up. Veraladeramanera (talk) 01:19, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Declined I don't see why move-protection is needed. There hasn't been any move-warring nor pagemove-vandalism. Maxim () 02:23, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try and ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Template:Railway line header (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Though in common use, this template does not deserve high level protection (semi is more proper.) And recently there's request from normal account to edit the template syntax. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 02:04, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Declined I don't think it's wise choice, as it has over 2000 transclusions. Maxim () 02:16, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
But there's no vandalizing record in the history before the protection. The edits that were reverted aren't malicious. Isn't its risk for being vandalized overestimated? -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 02:28, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Autumn Tone Records (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

I would like to request unprotection of this page. It is my understanding that, in the past, the fear has been that the page was used in a promotional manner, or with blatant copyright infringement. I believe that there is now enough media coverage, in addition to enough releases and artists on the label, that the page can be created fairly and without copyrighted material. The page was given a very short life and is, now, I feel, able to be a better, comprehensive page. Also, I have attempted to contact the administrator who protected the page, but have not received communication back.At the zoo (talk) 22:18, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Declined It was deleted 4 times in April: twice for copyright violations and twice for not asserting notability. If you like, create a proposed page in your user space (like user:At the zoo/Autumn Tone Records), then come back here and request it be moved into article space. —EncMstr (talk) 02:27, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Saurial (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

I'd like to request unprotection of several dozen Dungeons & Dragons related articles. These articles were permanently semi-protected over 6 months ago by Jéské Couriano, as a preventive measure to deter the vandalism of various Grawp IP socks. However, rather than attacking the articles themselves specifically, these IP's seemed mainly involved in harassment in the form of reverting the edits of Jack Merridew, and to a lesser extent, harassment of Gavin.collins and Jéské as well. However, Jack Merridew has been blocked since March, and Gavin.collins has been inactive on D&D articles for a few months as well; not unsurprisingly Grawp has therefore not been harassing either of them on any D&D articles in some time that I am aware of. It does not seem like any of these articles are currently or likely to be under any threat from Grawp's IP attack, so it does not seem to make sense to keep them semi-protected any longer. If any of them do get vandalized in this manner again, it would make sense to return them to a state of permanent semi-protection on a case-by-case basis, and I would offer my sincere apology for suggesting this in the first place. :)

I unprotected the first batch; Drizzt Do'Urden was not edit protected, but is only move protected. I'll nibble away at this later today. —EncMstr (talk) 15:28, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Hey, thanks!  :) At least a couple of the ones you unprotected have already been edited by anons, apparently constructively. This proves nothing one way or the other, of course, but there you have it. 67.162.108.96 (talk) 22:59, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

User talk:Sleeping Beast (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

User Sleeping Beast made several malicious page moves today. [1] However, his or her talk page is under full protection (with no reason given), so he or she cannot be warned. JCDenton2052 (talk) 23:55, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection. Template:Film (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

As per talk page request. Many thanks! Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 23:13, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Just so I don't muck up a highly-transcluded template, I am right in thinking you want the whole contents of that page put into the template? That page isn't multi-purpose or anything? :) Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 23:18, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
I just want a change identical to the cited diff added. However, simply overwriting the template with a cut-paste of my user subpage should be the exact same thing. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 23:35, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

List of National Basketball Association top individual scoring season averages (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

There is a necessary edit to make on this page, which provides misinformation on NBA history. In fact, the page appears to have been protected in the first place due to an edit war involving the change that needs to be made. However, there was no type of discussion - by either party involved - on the talk page made during that edit war, which perhaps explains why the page was protected in the first place.

Declined What specifically do you want the administrators to add? -Jéské (v^_^v Bodging WP edit by edit) 04:40, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

I think that you misunderstand. There is not a need for an addition, but rather a piece of content should be removed from the page because it does not actually belong there. A particular player's season is listed there when it is not acknowledged by the NBA in its record books. For some more detail, I have commented on this on the talk page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.31.252.152 (talk) 05:02, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Deferring to another administrator here as this involves editing a section previously the focus of an edit-war. I'm unwilling to make the change, but it does sound reasonable. -Jéské (v^_^v Bodging WP edit by edit) 18:19, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

So what happens now? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.31.252.152 (talk) 07:13, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

You'll have to wait for another administrator. Another suggestion I could make is to use {{editprotected}} on the talk page and be specific about the edit you want to make; RFPP is rather sleepy at times. -Jéské (v^_^v Bodging WP edit by edit) 20:56, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Done. Looked right to me; I imagine if other editors have conflicting information/sources, they'll sound off. Tan ǀ 39 04:15, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Georgia (country) (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

semi-protection. There is a continuous vandalism by IPs and certain accounts that want to undermine the long standing consensus about the geographic location of the country. Right now it is fully protected but it expires in several hours. The problem is that the dispute is not likely to be solved anytime soon, that is why I need to ask you to permanently semi-protect the page. The IP edit warring as you could see in previous days' editing history is not likely not stop.Editors are tired of having to revert things over and over again. The protection Has to be permanent and not some 24 hour or 3 day protection.I would love if something temporary was possible so that new editors dont have any obstacles however,it does not seem to work. --Satt 2 (talk) 19:38, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Declined Asking for pre-emptive reprotection before a previous protection expires (as intended by the admin who set that prot) is pretty poor form. You're welcome to ask that admin for an extension, but there was a clear intent for expiration, so let that happen and see what happens before asking for more protection.
